Why hard work sucks.

As fully predicted, I hate using my brain again!

I hate hard work, it leaves you no time to blog! So yeah, it's now friday of week 2.  Here is the timetable report, 9AMs suck, this we knew already, but Monday 9AMs are more bearable than Friday 9 AMs.

Mental note to self - take thermos of coffee for 2 hours of German  on Friday. I can see that 9 - 11 Am slot becoming a most hated fixture.
I also possibly mentioned that I have a weekend in the middle of the week.
This "weekend", or perhaps "midweeksiesta" is turning in much less of a weekend and into a "howmuchcanwestuffinto48hrs-siesta". Yesterday after spending most of the morning in bed. Who knew it was imperative to get 10hrs sleep? I thought you needed 8. 6 is my usual and probably has alot to do with my schizophrenic notes from this mornings German, auf Deutsch, lecture. That and a distinct lack of caffine. I wish I could make Mocha at home but i am sadly bereft of milk whisk. If you take pity on me buy me one.
The joy of mocha is two fold. One its espresso based = plenty of caffine = alert, mildly more "with it" Beth, and two its full of chocolate and (if bought from diggles) cream this makes me feel happy or at least  less depressed.
Lucy understands this. Lucy knows the joys of Mocha. Its why we joke that last year she payed the diggles men's wages! She did buy and awful lot of hot beverages from their establishment, despite mainly being fuelled by tea, we got her in to the beany joys of coffee. But this is a tangent and I'm getting sidetracked.

This isn't uncommon.

Back to more academic concerns.

Translation.
Translators are a very particular type of person. They are fastidious, precise, organised, hard working, and focused.
None of the above adjectives, except hard working apply to me.
Yet DELC insists that every week I translate at least 250 from German to English.
I spend a lot of time promising myself rewards for a little bit of focus. I wish it worked.
Admittedly this weeks is substantially easier than last weeks. It's a start that my first action upon reading the first sentence was to understand what it meant instead of making full recourse to my dictionary as the only words that made sense were the grammatical function words, as was the case last week.
This why Lucy is good at translation and Beth is not. Lucy organises Beth, Beth leaves chaos in her wake.

This afternoon is thusly dedicated to napping whilst pretending to translate.

Gah DELC!

Whilst we're on the subject of DELC,
Year Abroad.
It seems that as a language assistant this is the term that everything starts to get rather busy, whilst next term is relatively quiet.
We had our first lecture on Wednesday swiftly followed by one next Wednesday. This next one being more important than the last one as I already knew everything they told us on Wednesday. Yet being reminded of it was so scary it required a Diggles milkshake. And everyone knows, Diggles milkshakes are fantastic but you do have to skip a rent payment for one.
Especially as I have a particularly costly combination.
But never mind xD
So yes Year Abroad keeps getting closer and it shan't be long till this turns into a year abroad blog. by very nature of its being about me and what I do and thusly, the life and trials of a disorganised English and German student, shall turn into the foreign mishaps of an English Language Assistant in Germany.

:O

Now before I toddle off, because its long past nap time,

Congratulations to my cousin David and his wife Penny, who had a gorgeous little boy Elias James, who finally decided to put in an appearance at 3.30 AM on Wednesday.  :)
Photos as and when I get them. :)
Till I next get chance,

Hey guess what?

I'm procrastinating.

UNIVERSITY IS BACK IN SESSION!

Which is why tonight is the first night this week I get to stay at home watching TV and possibly (DUM DUM DER!) an early night.

Also I'm taking delivery of a few books and A TUMBLE DRYER! Which means I can wash my bedding. This pleases me.

I really don't wan to do this translation. As if they set one first lesson back *makes negative noises about DELC*

On the up side pumpkin soup and Lebkuchen :)

Which I am now going to much for lunch!

In which there is disgust at holiday homework, I will moan about 9AM starts, and why I am banned from New Look.

Dear DELC, You have set me homework during freshers week. This is a bucket of slops, go drink it.
Anyone who has been on camp knows there's nothing worse than looking in the slops bucket. The crew are often heard to tell each other to go eat slops if one irritates the other. You would most definitely not want to consume anything from the slops bucket. In fact the idea of that rather equates to the idea of German homework during freshers week. German 101 Part 2 are less than impressed.
I haven't even looked at English yet. Not yet recovered from DELC.

But that's only the beginning of this rant. (Dear Josh, hold on to your spleen). Despite my rather empty looking timetable, it packs its punches. This timetable has a weekend in the middle of it, (there goes my degree), and 2 9AM starts, (goodbye pleasant, lovely Beth, hello growly, grunty monster).
Despite 9AM's being infinitely preferable to 6PM finishes, (not even being able to think about dinner till 7 is always immensely depressing), 6.30 Alarm calls are never pleasant.

Especially if its all the fault of my 9AM Lecturer.  I can't help it. I fall asleep in his lectures. I can't say what Lucy's friend once said, he's a pompous finicky individual and would probably get me chucked out. He thinks he's funny - I've met wittier rocks. I find his lectures a bit like chewing marbles. Seemingly Ceaseless, unfailingly boring, ultimately thankless, and funny for all the wrong reasons.

Also I disagree with some of his more strident opinions, which in the vein of most academics, he considers to be an unforgivable crime. I can see myself giving myself concussion before this year is out, on purpose, not by accident.

Onto lighter material. I've banned myself from New Look. (I heard that snort of derision - keep your opinions for an I told you so. They're far more satisfying)
The place is a danger to my bank balance. I'm now going to have to strip back on cupcakes. (*sobs, wail, hyperventilate*) I bought a lovely pair of boots. (and a new pair of jeans, but that's boring). The boots are lovely and once I have acquired some new Scholl Party feet thingies. (Though it'll end up being boot's own brand cos I'm a tight fisted student.) walking/ standing shall be more bearable. And any further comments on why Beth shouldn't wear heels will fall on deaf ears. Yes I'm 6ft(ish). In what way does that mean I shouldn't wear pretty shoes? I don't have a height complex, neither should you, or rather you shouldn't have a complex about my height!
But yes until I have acquire christmas presents or, till next term rolls around one can safely say one has spent enough in New Look.
Now then having vented, possibly ruptured Josh's spleen, (long story) and having seen the time, I'm to Real Food 'cos I'm Late!

In which there was a meltdown, many visitors, a new splash, and a gibbering bank account.

Yesterday I had an emotional meltdown. And as such you lovely lot were done out of a blog.

So here I am.

Now when did I last blog?

Ahh it would appear it was last Tuesday.

And it would appear that absolutely nothing newsworthy happened on Wednesday. Until I remember that we had a visit from Henry and Lauren.  It was rather excellent to see them again. Henry believed that the only way to remedy the outdoor loo was to, and I quote, "to Bath bomb it"

Henry: You need to bath bomb it!
Me: Bath bombs don't explode! They Fizz!
Henry: But its an accurate description of what you need to do to it!

I would much prefer to just knock it through and make my kitchen bigger but sadly tis not a house that I, A)Own. or B) Have the money to remodel.

Despite this I really like my house, even if damp gets into the TV cable because lets face it Lancaster is the only place in the world where that happens on a regular basis and your next door neighbour knows instantly what's wrong.

Then Came Thursday, Thursday meant Preston.

The day my bank balanced crawled under the desk and gibbered. It had good reason.

We start with this photo.
I finally got my mucky mitts on this gorgeous Baby.

Along with a lovely starry top.

However, It did not stop there.
We went to H&M

Where due to some miracle I restrained my self. However I want that hat. And the Jumper I tried, and the dress.
They shall be acquired. They have to be. Especially the hat and jumper. Though really I need Jeans more. The real damage was done in as ever in Primarni.

Though I never thought it was possible to spend £27 in Primarni, but I did. xD

I bought the usual basics to replace the ones I'd worn into the ground. And a pair of joggers because, well I intend at some point to go running and, well, they're rather comfy. In fact I seem to spending and awfully large amount of time in them.

However all is not lost. I just have to pay myself each week for three weeks.

All in all however I had a fantastic day with Amy, Emma and eventually Rachy who turned up at lunch.

Friday saw us visit our good friend Anthony and make a new friend in his house mate Dan. It also meant we got to eat Anthony's home cooking. There are not enough glowing adjectives to describe that boys cooking.

The current message on our fridge sums it up

Alyson wrote it.

"Omnomnom"

We nommed heartily, and enjoyed good company and eventually rolled home gone midnight.

Saturday was another good day. Passed once again in the fine company of Amy, Rachy and Emma

We had a lovely time on a very sunny day. Pinics in October are fun. mainly because, no wasps!
:D

Sunday was church and seeing Hannah, albeit very briefly but even so it made me happy.
Monday.
Monday involved getting up early. Monday involved getting on a bus. Monday involved going to campus. Twice. In the morning packed my Eastpak bag for the first time *makes pleased and smug faces* and followed my housemates to uni to register for second year (hence why tomorrow my bank account will stop gibbering and relax.) Sort out my seminars. Wrangle Wednesdays and Thursday entirely free for the whole of 1st term (dances jig) before going home to vaccuum and dust because we had a house guest that night. But first I had a date. A very important date. One I have been talking about since last term. It involved meeting Emma. It involved dragging my butt to the X1 stop for a second time, and Finally trying out the new pool.

Which is deceptive. Its almost as wide as it is long and that will at some point lead to a statement so physically unsound, (we're talking science here), that Raph's head will hit the table in despair for a second time.

I still think its like swimming up hill :P

But!
All jokes on my bonkers world view aside, The pool itself is lovely light airy and well it has a shallow end a deep end and the middle bit. Even if it was a little chilly. I guess it is a sports pool not the local municipal.
The bonkers bit is the changing rooms.
I may have already, had rant about the uni's gender neutral policies previously on here. I cant be bothered checking.
But Gender neutral changing rooms??
Ok so there are cubicles but its still just a tad unnerving having to walk past the boys bit to get to the girls bit. Jus' saying. I don't need wolf whistling and you don't need to show off.
Are we all on the same page. Excellent.

Tuesday. That was yesterday. Okay so this says this was posted on Thursday. Its a long blog! I started it on Wednesday and I haven't been to bed yet. So far as I'm concerned its not Thursday till I have been to bed and slept. Or the sun has risen.

Anyway yesterday I got serious about playing my guitar, taught Amy four basic chords (talk about the partially sighted leading the blind), and had too many Hannah's round for tea.  So this meant we had a lovely catch up with Hannah D, and met lovely Fresher Hannah F. Best of all? Hannah F. is a French and German DELC Fresher. MUHAHAHAHA! Oh she doesn't have a clue. Well, she has more of a clue now. Should probably warn her to start reading now, she might be ready by Christmas.
Anyway we had a dead girly evening. Nails & nail art, seems I haven't lost the knack :D and we had a chick flick on. Two of the gathered company were being rather cynical and sarcastic the whole way through.  Three were thoroughly enjoying it. if you can guess which side I was on and which side I'd normally be on then congratulations I already know precisely who you are xD.
:P
Today consisted of me reading the infernal Cat and Mouse for German cover to cover in 3 to 4 hours introducing myself to the neighbours and getting the tele fixed for my efforts. Today I learnt that Alyson talks in her sleep, Gunther Grass is as boring as expected and that (only in Lancaster) TV aerials can get Damp.

Honestly!

Tomorrow is Freshers Part 1, Round 2. Alyson's joining knit soc.

I'll be honest I'm mainly going for the free stuff, which is why I'm totally aiming to be the first one into Freshers Fair part 2 the 2nd year running. or maybe I'll be nice and let the actual freshers in first. Either way Dominoes better be dishing out the Pizza again.
Right,

That's covered what uni students do at uni when there's no actual work to be done.

And now?

Its quite clearly bed time.

Na night!
